In this video, I want to talk about the five reasons why people may not be buying your Christian t- shirts.
Hey sis, my name is Stephanie Rodnez, Founder and CEO of Godlywoodgirl and my purpose in life is to help you achieve yours. That is why I am so excited to dive into the 5 reasons why people may not be buying your Christian t- shirt business.
Reason 5: You Don’t Really Believe In Your T- Shirts.
The fifth reason is that you do not really believe in your own t- shirts. One of the great things about being online is that there is this subconscious feeling we get when we listen to people speak online. We can read whether they are being genuine or fake from their energy. If you do not really believe in your t- shirt, the designs, the quality or that it is something that people really need in their closets that is going to come out in your marketing messages.
People are going to be able to read that and intuitively know that it is not a product that they need. To fix this, create t- shirts that you love. Create t- shirts that represent who you are and the unique perspective that God gave you to share in this Christian t- shirt business market. If you haven’t created a t- shirt that you love, take the time to really understand the purpose of your brand, the personality of your brand, who your brand serves, the target demographic that you are making the shirts for, the kind of quality that you are offering, the kind of colors and design styles, fonts that you are using.

Reason 4: Your T- Shirts Aren’t Priced Competitively.
The fourth reason why your Christian t- shirt business may not be selling is that your t- shirts are not priced competitively. Sometimes, we Christian entrepreneurs tend to underprice ourselves. We are like: “oh, I want to be able to serve as many people as possible so I’m going to make sure I price my shirts as low as possible”. Here is the thing, if I go to MacDonald’s knowing that French fries sell for $1 and you have your own restaurant that is supposed to be able to compete with MacDonald’s, and I notice that you are selling the same size for 5 cents, what am I going to think?
I am going to think that there is something wrong with your French fries. I’m going to think that it is of inferior quality, something is not right about it, and you don’t have your health code, or something like that. This is because I know that the market has priced a small sized French fries at a dollar. Why then are you selling yours for 15 cents?
In the same way, if I know that French fries are priced at a dollar and I go into our restaurant and you are trying to sell it for $10, I am going to say: “you are outta your mind, bye Felicia”! There is no way I am going to pay more when the market has told me what this costs. You ought to make sure that you are pricing your t- shirts competitively. Not too low because it I going to make people think it’s of inferior quality, and not too high because you are going to outprice yourself and people are not going to spend more than what they think something is worth.
Take a look at similar competitors in your industry, see how much they are charging for their shirts, do your numbers, and make sure you are going to be able to make enough profit margin for you to stay in business. In it, I show you how to calculate the profit margin of your business so that you price your shirts the right way. Make sure you price your shirts competitively.
If you are trying to figure other t shirt businesses online that sells t- shirts so you can price your t shirts the right way, just do a google search of Christian t- shirts. Take a look at the vendors that come up and see what they are pricing their shirts at.
R3: Your T- Shirts Don’t Have a Clear Brand Personality.
The third reason why people may not be buying your t- shirts is that you don’t have a clear brand personality. Personality is the way that you see me. It includes the way that I speak, my energy, my voice, but it also includes the way that I look.
My afro, pink lipstick, pink earrings, black glasses, always wearing a pink, black, and white shirt like my husband always says. That is all part of my personality. When you create an online business, you need to do the same thing for your business. Create a brand personality so that people can recognize your stuff online.
If you don’t stand out from everybody else, then there is no way that somebody can make sure they are buying from you and not from the next guy. Both of you are going to look the same sis. If your shirts look the same as the next guy; the kind of shirt, colors that you offer, text and font of the shirt, and every other thing looks the same, then I am not going to know if I’m buying French fries from you or from MacDonald’s. I’m going to have no idea because you all look the same.
You ought to create a distinct brand personality that makes you stand out from everybody else. That way, when I am looking at Christian t- shirt businesses online and I stumble on yours, I know from the logo, the looks, the quality, that this is your shirt.
Reason 2: You Didn’t Do Market Research Before You Launched Your T- Shirt Business.
The second reason why people may not be buying your Christian t- shirts is that you didn’t do market research before you launched your t- shirt business. Market research is one of the number one most important concepts that I teach at the Godlywoodgirl School of Business.
I am a big believer of “do not guess” at running a Christian business online. If you do not make sales in your business, then you have a very expensive hobby. Trust me, I know…I have been there. Before I was doing market research, I was launching products left and right but nobody was purchasing anything.
After I started doing market research, now whenever I launch something, I sell it before I even launch it. You don’t have to presell your stuff like I do. However, do market research to find out the kind of shirt your audience wants, the kind of colors they respond to, the kind of styles that they like. Is it scooped neck, V- neck, long sleeves, short sleeves, or crop tops?
Whatever your market wants, make sure you are doing research to give them exactly that. Sometime, you do not have to toss out the entire design. Sometimes, it is just a matter of choosing different shirt styles to present to them. Do market research! Reason 1: You Don’t Do Marketing.
Finally, the number one reason why people may not be buying your Christian t- shirts is that you don’t do any marketing sis! You don’t tell people about your Christian t- shirts. I think this is really funny because I used to do this myself.
A lot of times, we Christian entrepreneurs think that when we launch a business, God is going to do the marketing for us. If you kind of felt this same way, comment it in the link below. I did same when I started my first business online. I put my DVDs for sale on amazon and I just closed my eyes like: “Yay! By morning, I am going to be a millionaire”. No sis, it doesn’t work like that.
The reason for that is because in Genesis 3: 18, when we sinned God said no longer will we reach out our hands to get the fruit from the trees to eat. Now, it was going to be by the sweat of our brow that we shall eat. Because of sin, we have to find the seed, dig the hole, plant the seed, put the dirt back in, water it, and pray for Jesus to allow that seed to take root and become a tree. When he does, we have to be the ones to go out and get the harvest. God is not going to take the fruit from the tree and put it in our mouth!
We have to get the harvest, that is, we have to give God something to bless. If you are not telling anybody about your Christian t- shirts, then there is no way that anybody is going to buy them. You have to do marketing for your Christian t- shirt businesses. My rule of thumb that I teach at the Godlywoodgirl School of Business is to spend 80% of your free time marketing your business and 20% of your time doing everything else.
Emails, campaigns, creating products, all that good stuff, but 80% of your time should be spent telling people about your product. That is what needs to be done. I know that none of us want to be salevy and that is why I don’t do direct sales whenever I do marketing.
I promote free products, which lead to paid products. I teach you how to do this at the School of Business with something called sales funnels. Whatever method you choose to do your marketing, spend 80% of your time telling people about the amazing t- shirts that the Lord allowed you to create.
