Want to learn how to start a t- shirt business online? In this video, I'm going to teach you how to start your own t- shirt business online step-by-step.
Hey, my name is Stephanie Rodnez; Founder and CEO of Godlywoodgirl and Creator of the Godlywoodgirl School of Business. My purpose in life is to help you achieve your purpose in life. Step 1: Choose Your Niche.
What kind of shirts are you going to be selling this? Here's the thing, if you're making t- shirts with just random themes and random messages, you're not going to be able to create a sustainable business. You ought to know the niche God called you to serve and this has everything to do with your God given purpose. Make sure you are clear on what industry you are serving in. For example, if you're in the fitness industry, right, but your niche are NFL athletes, then the type of shirts you would create for an NFL athlete are completely different from the type of shirts you would create for a new mom who's just going to the gym, totally different audiences. So get really clear on your niche. Step 2: Build Your Audience.
One of the biggest mistakes that we make as Christian entrepreneurs is that we create products and try to find people to buy them. Sis, I want you to reverse this, I want you to find people who are interested in buying from you first. So it's building your audience and then create the products to sell to them second. The reason why you want to do this is because if you already have the audience in place, you can ask them what they want, and they will tell you what they want. So now you don't have to sell anything. You are just literally serving people the solutions that they asked you for. Build your audience in your niche before you design your shirts.
I got a dm from somebody on Instagram who was telling me how they had created these t- shirts and they wanted me to take a look at the design to see if there's anything wrong with it because they've been trying to sell these shirts all over and nobody was buying them. I was like, “I can't give you my opinion on the design of your shirt. I don't even do that for my stuff. I need you to ask your audience what they think of the design of your shirt”. He was like, “Well, I didn't build an audience”. And I was like, “well, that's the problem you have. You created something that you liked and trying to find people who like it too”. What I do here at Godlywoodgirl is I've created an audience of people who are interested in learning from me. And then I ask them what they want me to teach them, and then I actually teach it to them. That's what I do. It's called the Purpose Profit Formula. That's what I teach you in the School of Business. So don't guess who's going to be buying your shirts. Create an audience of people who are interested in you creating shirts for them.
Step 3: Market Research
And then in step number three, ask them what shirts they want. So I usually recommend waiting until you have an email list of about 1000 people. This is because statistically, only 1% of your audience is going to buy from you for any one thing. So 1% of 1000 is 10 sales and if you press your shirt at 50 bucks. That's $500 which is great. So I recommend probably building your email list to about 1000 people and then you send them an email and say: “hey, I want to design a T shirt line for you. What do you want me to make for you”? Let them tell you. Don't be like: “ugh… they don't have taste”. This is the audience you've created so serve them with your shirts, ask them what they want.
Step 4: Create Your Shirt
And step number four, create your T shirt line based on what they want. They told you they want crap tops, give them crop tops. If they told you they want black joggers, give them black joggers. If they told you they want really flexible clothes for the gym, give them flexible clothes for the gym. If they told you they want some really cute flowy shirts for church, give them cute flowy shirts for church, listen to the audience and give them what they want.
Step 5: Launch Your Collection.
And finally, step number five minutes you've designed your t- shirt collection based off of that market research. Launch your collection to your list. Launching is not the same as just making an announcement. Launching is giving strategic marketing touch points so somebody can become aware of the product that you are serving. In marketing, you usually need to have at least nine to twelve touch points with somebody before they even start to recognize the message you're telling them. And touchpoints just means that they see the message that you're trying to give them. So for example, for movies coming out, then my first touch point could be a YouTube video that I show them.
The second touch point could be a radio interview that I put on a station I know that they listen to. A third touch point can be an email blast if they're on my waiting lists. A fourth touch point could be a preview of the movie that I invite them to. So there are different ways that you can have those touch points with your audience. But as you launch your t- shirt make sure you have multiple touchpoints. A launch is not one announcement. It is multiple touchpoints with your audience that they know you t- shirt collection is available.
