I’m going to show you exactly how to do it.
Hello, this is Stephanie Rodnez, Founder and CEO of Godlywoodgirl and creator of Godlywoodgirl Author Toolkit. STEP 1: Identify Your Niche
The first step is to choose your niche. Your niche is a specific part of the market that you are going to be targeting with your book. For example, in the fitness industry, there’s the niche of a “new mother who just had a baby and wants to lose body fat” and there is the niche of the “NFL player who wants to bonk up before he gets back to his season”. Same industry yet two completely different customers. So, you want to make sure you are clear on which niche you are serving first. Because your book needs to be written to appeal to that actual niche.
STEP 2: Choose a Physical Product that Appeals to that Niche
Once you know exactly what your niche is, you know exactly what the customer avatar that you are trying to sell your book to needs. Now, you need to choose a physical product that is going to appeal to that niche.
The same fitness gear that the NFL player is going to use is completely different from the fitness gear that the new mother who is holding her baby in her hand all the time for the next 6 weeks straight is going to use. They are two completely different lifestyles. So, you want to choose a physical product that fits the lifestyle of the customer you want to reach.
Go to Amazon.com, figure out which product you’re going to serve your niche with. Then, go to Alibaba.com or Aliexpress.com, to see if you can find that product there. That way, you will know if you are going to be able to fulfill it using Amazon.com for your customer.
STEP 3: Write an E-book that Presells that Physical Product
Now that you know both your niche and the product to sell, step three is to write an e-book to pre-sell that physical product. Now here’s the thing, I did not come up with this strategy and I don’t want you to think it’s all me. I want to give credit where credit is due. The first person who did this was somebody called Jeff Walker. He wrote a book called “Launch” and it was a book that pre-sold his online course teaching you how to sell your products online. The second person that I saw do this was Russel Bronson, he wrote a book called “Dotcom Secrets”. In that book, he presells his sales from a builder software called “Click Funnels” which I currently use in my own business. Love the book, love the strategies.
I saw other entrepreneurs use this strategy before I started doing it. When I started doing it, I saw why they were using it. Listen, sis, a lot of book authors write a book just to sell that book, right? But, there is something called “average card value” and it is the amount of money somebody can spend with you during one transaction. If you only sell one book, then all you can make during that transaction is the one book. But, if you have something else, you can sell it after that book. In other words; more products to offer, more upsell offers, like something you would dip on a sales funnel. Now, you are increasing the average card value that you make during n that transaction and your book can operate as a sales funnel.
In the problem, when you are writing the content, give them value. Solve the specific problem that you said you were going to solve when you sold them that book. Also, let them know there is something else that they can purchase from you to solve an additional problem. This s your core product offer right inside of the book. I have done this many times. If you have read my book: “The 5 P’s of Purpose-Preneurship”, it presells the Godlywoodgirl School of Business. If you have read my book: “The War of Purpose”, it presells the Godlywoodgirl School of Purpose. If you have read my book: “How to Make a Sale Funnel that makes you Money While you Sleep”, it likewise presold the Godlywoodgirl Writer’s Academy.
It is a strategy that I will keep using because it is an excellent strategy to increase your average card value as well as build a sales funnel. You can just do it right through the book. So, you want to write the book in a way that solves the specific problem for your readers, as well as presell the physical product that you choose.
STEP 4: Marketing + Marketing = Marketing
Having written your book, the fourth thing you need to do is marketing! Marketing!! Marketing!!! The good thing is that, if you have a physical product that makes a good amount of money like something takes a $100 or $200, then you can choose to give away your book for free. This is what I do; I give my book out for free. Sometimes, I only charge the cost of printing and shipping the book but it’s still giving the book away for free as I make no profit. It is a great method to use if what you presell in the book leads to a great amount of money than you would have made in selling the book in the first place.
For example, currently, the Godlywoodgirl School of Business is about $109 per month for the Legend package, $97 per month for the Purpose package. So, I have no problem giving away the 5 P’s of Purpose-Preneurship for free because what will I do, charge $4 for the book? It is much easier for me to just give it out for free. If you get value from it and you decide that “I want to learn how to do this to implement this and get her course”, then you upgrade into the Legend or Purpose package. Then, praise God! You may have lost money giving it away for free, but you can upsell into the next package.
As such, think of it that way; not as losing money by giving it away for free but as being able to put the book in the hands of more people. It is much easier to give something to someone for free than it is to ask them to pay you $10 for it. So, consider that strategy; free plus shipping strategy or just giving it away for free as a lead magnet, which I do all the time.
If you don’t want to do it, that is fine. Go ahead and list your book for sale on Amazon.com, your website, or wherever you want to list t for sale. You just need to do marketing. The goal is to get this book to as many people as possible. With the right conversion or even the right sales message, the normal conversion is between 1-5%. This means for every 100 people who see your offer, 1 person will buy it. So, if you think about those odds, even with a well-written sales message, you want to get this book into the hands of as many people as possible. That is why I use the free plus shipping strategy because, it is easier for me to get it into the hands of more people and therefore, expand my reach.
However, it is completely up to you. Just make sure you are doing marketing! Marketing!! Marketing!!! If you do not know how to do marketing, get into the Godlywoodgirl School of Business.
