Do you want to write an e-book and publish it on Amazon? Then sis, by the end of this video, you are going to know my exact step-by-step plan that I have used to self-publish over two dozen books on Amazon.com. Stay tuned to the end, I cannot wait to show you all about publishing an e-book on Amazon.
Hey hun, it’s your girl Stephanie Rodnez, Founder and CEO of Godlywoodgirl and creator of the Godlywoodgirl School of Business. Step 1: Write Your Book
The very first step is to write your book. Now I know this may seem like a kind of crazy process. You are like: “Stephanie, what are you talking about? If I knew how to write a book I’d easily be done”. Sis, when I first started writing books, it took me like a year to get it done. Now, I can write a book in 6 hours. Why? Because writing a book is a very simple formula. Number;
- What you want to write about.
- What people want to learn about.
- Put it together and write your book.
I like to aim for no more than about 100 pages because it is an e-book and to be honest with you, people do not want to read a long e-book. That is the process that I use. Step 2: Convert Your Book into An .epub File
With the second step, once you have written your book, you now need to convert it into what is called an “epub file”. There are lots of different formats that Amazon Kindle accepts. However, one of the biggest mistakes new authors make is that they publish a PDF file as their Kindle e-book.
Here is the problem. You know how when you are a Kindle reader and you can adjust the font size, the font itself, the background from white to black or cream, mark things on pages? All of that is because Amazon Kindle puts in a responsive file into the Kindle app so people can make those adjustments. But, when you do not give them that responsive file, by giving them a PDF file, everything is locked into place. Nobody can adjust the text, font, the size, and the colors. Nothing. It is just stuck there. So, it makes the reading experience on Kindle quite unlovely and you are not as likely to get people recommending your e-book to others. So, you would want to make sure you give Amazon Kindle the correct format that they want.
You can give Amazon Kindle a .docx document; a Microsoft Word document and it will automatically convert it to an epub file. Just make sure that you format the Microsoft document correctly for Kindle. Tons of YouTube videos show you how to do this. I show you how to do this at the Godlywoodgirl School of Business. Step 3: Set up your Kindle Publishing Account
Step three is to set up your Kindle direct publishing account. Back in the day, we used to use a company called Create Space to self-publish our books but now, Amazon has set up Kindle Direct Publishing; kdp.amazon.com. Honestly, it is a lot easier to use than Create Space was so I’m happy campaigner navigating you to it. It is very easy to go into kdp.amazon.com and set up your account. That way, you can self-publish your books. It is free, here me again, it is free sis…!!
I think that Amazon should be charging authors for this service because it is an amazing service but they don’t. It is free sis! So you can go to kdp.amazon.com and set up your account. You need to put in your name, your bank account information so they can pay you when you sell your products on amazon and all the good stuff. Just make sure to read everything in person. Again, I take you through this process at the Godlywoodgirl School of Business so you can follow me step-by-step.
Step 4: Upload Your Book to Amazon
Step number four, once you have signed up for kdp direct, you have to upload your book to the Amazon platform. Once you sign up for kdp, you are going to see this little plus sign, click it, click kindle and that is it pretty much. You just follow the directions and upload your Microsoft Word file. Again, make sure your word file is formatted correctly for Kindle, and Amazon is going to take care of the rest.
You then put in your description, your title information, publication information, author information, you just follow it step-by-step. Then, you are going to price it accordingly. This process is honestly so simple and it takes me about 5 – 10 to upload a brand new book unto Amazon Kindle. Don’t let this hold you back.
If you are wondering: “okay, what will I use for my cover?” You can use a service called Fiverr.com and you will find designers who will create a Kindle book cover and formatted correctly for $5. You can’t beat that sis. So that is how you upload your book.
Step 5: Start Sending Traffic to Your Page
Finally, step number five once your book is approved, give Amazon Kindle maybe 72 hours to go ahead and approve your book. They are not looking for content, by the way, they are just checking to make sure you did not steal from anybody else, I think. They have to approve your book and once they approve it, go ahead and make your book live by pricing, selling, and sending traffic to your book.
It is not a difficult process at all. I discovered that the part that people got stuck was the first initial writing the book part.
